How To Tie The Homer Rhode Loop Knot

Need a simple loop knot for heavy leaders?  The Homer Rhode is a great choice for this application.

I also use the Home Rhode as a loop knot for braided, coated wire.  This type of wire is difficult to tie many knots with, but the Homer Rhode seems to work very well.

I also like to use the Homer Rhode for mono or fluorocarbon leaders that are really heavy, like 80-120 pound test.  The only disadvantage to the Homer Rhode is that I think it is about a 50% strength knot.  If you make sure that the leader is heavier than the line by more than double, you should be fine.

Check out the video of the Homer Rhode loop below and let me know what you think of this knot and how you are using it.

I have done over 40 knot videos but many people get confused with so many.  I often get the question, “Can you just tell me which are the ones I need to know?”
